Standards of Musicianship

Holiday Orchestra holds no auditions. Anyone aged from seven to eighteen who plays a musical instrument or who enjoys singing or making music in any form can take part. The only stipulation is that participants should have reached the general standard of musicianship (music reading included) for the section(s) they enter so as to be fair to other players.

These standards are approximately as follows, but please read the information for each course carefully as they do vary:

Folk Music Grade 4+ on woodwind (exc saxophone) or string or folk instrument
Folk for Fun None. Voices, strings, recorders, flutes, percussion
Gamelan None but children must be aged 8 or over
Advanced Gamelan Must have attended at least one Gamelan session on a previous course
Djembe drumming None
Percussion None

13+ Chamber Choir Grade 6+ on first intstrument (inc voice) with choral or sight-singing experience

Grade 5 Theory: The Basics Working towards Grade 5 and above on first instrument
